Never Take Sauna Baths more than 20 mins!

Share
Sauna is a very popular alternative nowadays for modern people to get relaxations. Many people choose to have sauna bats after a busy day at work because it indeed can make people relax. But there is one thing that people should know before deciding to take a sauna bath, they should not do it for more than 20 minutes.

This advise is given because if people sweat continuously, it may cause dehydration, shortness of breath, nausea, dizziness, and even can cause people to faint. Saunas are done in a closed room by using a heater until the temperature in the room reaches over 70 degrees celsius. In this condition the body temperature will rise to about 38-40 degrees Celsius in just a few minutes. For this reason, experts advised people to have sauna bath not more than 15-20 minutes.

“The existing saunas are probably safe for the body, but there are only little evidence which shows that a sauna can provide benefits for health or relaxation,” says Dr. Harvey Simon of the Harvard Mens Health Watch, according to Health.Harvard.edu.

Dr Simon said that during a sauna, people’s pulse rate will increase by 30 percent or more making it possible for the heart to work double in pumping blood every minute. Most of this extra blood flow will be channeled to the skin. This will cause blood flow not reaching the internal organs. Besides that, blood pressure can not be predicted, in some people it can increase but in others it will decrease.

According to studies, people with heart problems should consult their doctor first before having a sauna bath. This is very important to avoid the risk of a more fatal heart problem. “Patients with less controlled blood pressure, abnormal heart rhythms, unstable angina, heart failure or patients with heart disease and pregnant women may be advised to maintain their body temperature or should avoid saunas,” said Dr. Simon.
For healthy people who want to have sauna baths, Dr Simon suggested that they should follow some recommendations as a precautionary measure.

First of all, just like what have been stated above, Dr. Simon recommend people not to have a sauna bath for more than 15-20 minutes. People should also avoid alcohol and drugs that can affect the production of sweat and triggers overheating either before or after the sauna.

After having a sauna, people should cool their body temperature. They are advised to conduct the process of cooling gradually. They should also consume 2-4 glassed of cold water after having a sauna bath.
If your body condition is not very fit, or even worse if you are sick, you should avoid having a sauna bath. And if during a sauna bath you suddenly feel dizzy or unwell, you need to immediately stop your sauna bath and get out.
