Why Need to Eating Greens?

Share
Eat your greens. Researchers at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences and at St. John’s Medical College in Bangalore recently published a landmark study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. Working with clinicians from Harvard University, the researchers found that heart disease in India could be predicted by just two factors:

-Eating green leafy vegetables just 3 times a week lowered the risk of heart disease by 67%.
-Cooking foods in mustard oil rather than sunflower oil lowered risk of heart disease by 50%.

One of the most effective home remedies for preventing heart disease is lemon peel. It is believed to be one of the richest known sources of vitamin P. It strengthens the entire arterial system. Shredded lemon peel may be added to soups and stews, or sprinkled over salads.

To make a medicine, the peel of one or two lemons may be cut up finely, covered with warm water and allowed to stand for about 12 hours. A teaspoonful may be taken every three hours, or immediately before or after a meal.

Parsley is another effective preventative for heart disease. It contains elements which help to maintain the blood vessels, particularly the capillaries and arterial system in a healthy condition. It may be taken as a beverage by simmering it gently in the water for a few minutes and partaking several times daily.

The beet juice has also proved valuable in arteriosclerosis. It is an excellent solvent for inorganic calcium deposit. Juices of carrot and spinach are also beneficial. These juices can be taken individually or in combination. Formula proportions found helpful when used in combination are carrot 300 ml and spinach 200 ml to prepare 500 ml of juice.

Like vegetables, fruits are an excellent source of minerals, vitamins and enzymes. They are easily digested and exercise a cleansing effect on the blood and digestive tract. They contain high alkaline properties, a high percentage of water and a low percentage of proteins and fats. Their organic acid and high sugar content have immediate refreshing effects.

Apart from seasonable fresh fruits, dry fruits, such as raisins, prunes and figs are also beneficial. Fruits are at their best when eaten in the raw and ripe states. In cooking, the loose portions of the nutrient salts and carbohydrates. They are most beneficial when taken as a separate meal by themselves, preferably for breakfast in the morning.

If it becomes necessary to take fruits with regular food, they should form a larger proportion of the meals. Fruits, however, make better combination with milk than with meals. It is also desirable to take one kind of fruit at a time. For the maintenance of good health, at least one pound of uncooked fruits should form part of the daily diet. In case of sickness, it will be advisable to take fruits in the form of juices.

Know the Benefit of Vegetables ...

Share

Don’t forget to eat your vegetables. They are extremely rich source of minerals, enzymes and vitamins. Faulty cooking and prolonged careless storage, however, destroy these valuable nutrients. Most of the vegetables are, therefore, best consumed in their natural raw state in the form of salads.

There are different kinds of vegetables. They may be edible roots, stems, leaves, fruits and seeds. Each group contributes to the diet in its own way. Fleshy roots have energy value and good sources of vitamin B. Seeds are relatively high in carbohydrates and proteins and yellow ones are rich in vitamin A. Leaves, stems and fruits are excellent sources of minerals, vitamins, water and roughage.

To prevent loss of nutrients in vegetables, it would be advisable to steam or boil vegetables in their juices on a slow fire and the water or cooking liquid should not be drained off. No vegetable should be peeled unless it is so old that the peel is tough and unpalatable. In most root vegetables, the largest amount of mineral is directly under the skin and these are lost if vegetables are peeled. Soaking of vegetables should also be avoided if taste and nutritive value are to be preserved.

Tips to Overcome Excessive Sweat

Share
Excessive production of sweat is certainly very annoying. Usually this occurs in the area of one’s palms, underarms, legs and heels. As a result, clothes quickly gets wet, object held also become  slippery.

There are also those who experience excessive production of sweat on the face area. This makes their face look so wet and oily. There are millions of sweat glands spread across the surface of the skin. Each gland is capable of producing sweat. But the density of the gland may be higher in some areas compared to other areas.

For example you may have a higher density of glands on your foot or on your right armpit compared to other areas of your body. To overcome the problem of excessive sweating, there are 5 steps you can do:

1. Use Antiperspirants.
The use of antiperspirants can reduce the production of sweat glands. Find those that contains aluminum chloride and use every two hours, not after you shower.
2. Cornflour.
You can rely on corn flour sold in supermarkets. Put it in the area of excess sweat production. Or choose organic baby powder made from corn flour.
3. Avoid Consumptions of Spicy Food.
Bad body odor often occur because of the food you eat. Try to avoid or reduce the consumption of foods containing a lot of chili and garlic, because it can trigger the production of excessive perspiration and body odor.
4. Select Cotton Clothing.
In dressing, choose a material that absorbs sweat and feels comfortable, like cotton. Avoid using artificial materials such as polyester. It can attache the skin and restrict airflow.
5. Reduce Consumption of Antidepressants.
According to the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, some medications such as aspirin and antidepressants, can also increase production of sweat.

Tomatoes Prevent Prostate Cancer

Share
Scientists from the University of Illinois found that tomatoes can be used to prevent and reduce the riskof prostate cancer. Carotenoid pigments in tomatoes prevent cancer cell growth.

“Scientists believe the carotenoid pigment that gives red, yellow, and orange color on a number of fruits and vegetables prevent prostate cancer,” said John W. Erdman of the University of Illinois, according to the Times of India.

Researchers used isotopic labeling of tomato carotenoids with three carbon atoms heavier than carbon atoms of nature. This allows tracking of tomatoes and absorption components in the body’s metabolism.

In addition to carotenoids, the content of lycopene, phytoene and phytofluene, are expected to also have benefit of the health of male reproductive organs.

Actual Reasons Why People Are Often Late!

Share
Are you often late for something, for example for a dinner with your family, job interview, or even to come to the office? Well, you may not know that these kinds of delay does contain a meaning that may exceed what you think!

Various interesting meanings behind the customs delay is noted by Margaret Paul, Ph.D., a counselor and author of eight bestselling books, including ‘Give Up Me To Be Loved By You’, according to SheKnows:

1. The Concept of Time.
Children really can not predict how long an activity should be done or how long will it take to reach a particular place. They will understand this kind of function as they get older. People who are always late seems to apply the functions of how a child thinks, rather than as an adult.

Childish attitude is what triggers the reaction when they feel controlled. During the war between the infantile and the maturity is not realized, these people will continue to be late and do not care how other people are angry with him. But, once they realize the system inside them, then they can choose when this childish side should be shown and when the responsibilities of maturity should be highlighted.

2. Expression of Anger due to Control.
A person who is late to go to a doctor, does not mean he’s angry with the doctor. But, it could be it as a form of protest against their parents who are too controlling. Or for example a person is always late to the office. This could be an expression of dissatisfaction with their boss or coworkers.

3. Don't Care about Other People.
They feel they have the right to set the time for themselves and feel more important than time for someone else. They seem to get a kind of pleasure when making people wait. In other words, they do not want to be controlled by others.

4. A Way to be Tense and Nervous.
Why would someone want to become tense and anxious? Because this anxiety may be hiding a more severe anxiety. Most people who choose to do what they want and are reluctant to be on time rather than having to deal with their feelings which hurts more. At least, by being late, they are able to control their own anxiety instead of feeling powerless to face feelings of loneliness.

Tips to Keep Fruits and Vegetables Stay Fresh

Share

Many people provide a stock of vegetables and fruits in their refrigerator for a few days needs. But unfortunately, sometimes the freshness will be reduced. What causes this?

This case could happen because you store it less precisely. If so, how can we keep fruits and vegetables fresh for a long time? Follow the guidelines below by Times of India:

- Never store apples mixed with vegetables or other fruits.
Apples release certain gases that reduce the freshness of fruits and vegetables that surrounds it. Similarly, tomatoes and cucumbers mixed together have the same effect. Never store them in the same place. Tomatoes release gases that can rotten a cucumber.

- Store cheese in an airtight jar.
Storing cheese in an airtight container can help absorb moisture from the cheese. Moreover, it can make it stay fresh for longer period of time.

- Store potatoes in the refrigerator.
Potatoes absorb odors from cooked foods. It also absorbs gas in the refrigerator so that it helps the surrounding vegetable and fruit to stay fresh. But you have to replace the potatoes every few days.

Spinach can Strengthen Muscles

Share
The efficacy of spinach to strengthen muscles is not just a story in ‘Popeye the Sailor Man’, in fact it has now been scientifically proven.

Recent research conducted by experts from the Karolinska Institutet in Sweden found that spinach contains certain compounds that are able to strengthen muscles. The compounds are not iron (which was suspected), but nitrate.

For muscle cells, nitrate is able to stimulate mitochondrial to be able to work more efficiently. The mitochondria cells in the muscle are then able to produce energy in larger amounts, although with less amount of oxygen.

Improvement of the ability of mitochondria to produce energy efficiently can be felt within only 3 days. With regular nitrate consumption of 300 grams/day, the muscles need for oxygen decreases significantly, which is between 3-5%. “The function of nitrate is similar to fuel additive or octan booster on vehicle engines. The compound is able to make the muscles work more smooth and efficient,” said Dr. Eddie Weitzberg, who led the study, according to the Telegraph.

Benefits of spinach for muscle is popular in the cartoon character “Popeye the Sailor”‘ since the 1930s. The film, which was initially lifted from a comic story, is part of a campaign to eat vegetables in the United States at the time and claimed to successfully increase vegetable consumption among children by 33%.

Initially, many suspect that the benefits of spinach are located on the iron content. Because of a study in 1870, where Dr E von Wolf misplaced commas, so people think that spinach contains iron in the amount of 10 times more than the actual amount.

5 Signs a Heart Attack is Coming

Share
Heart attack now not only attacks the elderly but also young people. A heart attack does not suddenly appear because before the attack comes there are signs from the body.

But these signs are often ignored. In fact, according to a research from MIDAS in Milan, Italy, in 2006, almost about 52% of people with coronary heart disease did not experience chest pain or often referred to as silent ischemia.

According to mayoclinic, coronary heart disease is a disease caused by narrowing or blockage of coronary arteries, the blood vessels that will drain blood to carry nutrients and oxygen needed by the heart muscle to pump blood to the whole body.

Human heart pumps blood around the body constantly at around 4-5 liters of blood per minute. Therefore, if blood flow is not smooth, it can cause damage to heart muscles that causes heart pumps disorders (heart failure) and death. Things that triggers a heart attack include excessive exercise, anger with a lot of emotion or other activities done excessively.

There are at least 5 signs of a heart attack to watch out for:
1. Feeling pressure (pressed, pain, pinched and burned), which causes shortness of breath and choking on the neck.
2. The pain may spread to the left arm, neck and back.
3. The pain can last about 15-20 minutes and occur continuously.
4. Cold sweat, weak body, heart palpitations and even fainting.
5. The pain can be reduced when resting, but will increase if you do activities.

There are some things you can do to prevent heart attacks, such as keeping levels of fat blood cholesterol, keeping blood pressure under control, stop smoking, avoid fatty foods, fruit and vegetable consumption, exercise regularly, lose weight and reduce stress.

From the survey results it is known that from the many kinds of shoes that is used by pregnant women, no one fits. In fact, seven out of ten pregnant women have foot problems such as swollen ankles and feet, and pain in the heel. So, using comfortable and fit shoes for pregnant women is very important.

“The muscles and ligaments of pregnant woman soften and stretch due to an increase in ovarian hormone relaxin, which makes the feet more vulnerable to everyday movement,” said podiatrist, Lorraine Jones, according to BBC.

“High heel shoes alter posture, shortened calf muscles and put pressure on your back and knees. In pregnancy there extra pressure on joints can be a problem in the legs, making the body out of balance and at risk to fall,” she said. According to Jones, pregnant women should choose shoes with a heel of 1.2 inches. This is to shift their weight a little more advanced to the foot, which can help reduce discomfort. But if you really want to use high heel shoes, try not to wear it too long.

The worse thing which could happen is that children who frequently consume junk food may also experience permanent brain damage. Research by the University of Bristol, England, shows that children who eat more chips, biscuits and pizza before the age of three years old have lower IQs five years later.

Those who eat junk foods, has IQs which could be five points lower compared with children given a healthy diet with fruits, vegetables and home-cooked food. The study involved about 14,000 children born in the early 1990s. This is the first study that shows a direct relationship between eating patterns of young children and their brain power in the future.

Besides nutritional factors, researchers also weighed social class factors, and nursing mothers education and age. The researchers looked at the influence of home environment, such as access to toys and books. They say that good nutrition is very important in the first three years of life when the brain grows at its fastest pace. Young children who eat foods that are packed with fat, sugar and processed foods consume too little vitamins and nutrients, which means that their brains never grows to the optimum level.

In undergoing slimming program, which should not be forgotten is the health aspect. Do not let the diet program that made it dangerous to health. This time we try to distribute seven diet tricks from experts who have tested its safety.

1. Avoid Sugar Corn
A study shows high fructose corn syrup/HFCS significantly increase body weight compared with sugary drinks, even though both have the same number of calories.
That difference comes from the way the body processes these two sweeteners. Both are made from fructose and glucose, but in sugar both components bind to each other so it needs extra step to metabolize. In a HFCS, glucose and fructose has been separated so it is easily absorbed by the body.
HFCS is not only found in sodas, but also on bread, cereal, canned fruit, juices, and jams as well. Research on this subject was published in the Pharmacology, Biochemistry and Behavior journal 2001.

2. Don't Get Addicted to Sweet Foods
It’s hard to resist easting donuts, potato chips, or a piece of chocolate. But know that a research on laboratory mouse showed that it has the same effect on the brain like a drug.
Delicious and convenient taste that may arise after consuming the food is only temporary so the dopamine receptors will send a signal to the brain to increase the intake of carbohydrates for the body. Therefore, you should limit yourself so you don’t get obsessed.

Women, Never Take More Than a Cup of Coffee per day!

A coffee a day keeps the stroke of the way but only applies to women! Liked the rhyme? It is not a joke, but a fact. According to a very serious study conducted in 35 thousand Swedish women aged between 25 and 83 years, whose diet was followed by researchers for a decade, good, risk of stroke for the champion who habitually consumed coffee down 25%.

In contrast, women who had chosen to delete selected this delightful drink strengthening of their diet, had no benefit in terms of prevention. Says Susanna Larsson, coordinator of the study on behalf of the National Institute of Environmental Medicine of the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm: “Although we still have too little to recommend coffee as a beverage healthy. These findings should raise the mood of women concerned about drinking too much. Some of them avoid consuming coffee because they believe it hurts. Yet, there is increasing evidence that the moderate may reduce the risk of developing diseases such as diabetes, liver cancer and now the stroke. “

Indeed, we have long heard opinions about the opposite of expressed and the like remember, as loyal consumers and connoisseurs, the Italians are not the people who consume more coffee than average in Europe, often the daily cup has been demonized, blamed for causing gastritis, Ulcers, impaired pressure. This revaluation can not please us, I think they are very few Italian women who forgo the pleasure of a good coffee at home or at the bar.

Now, with this additional research, we discovered that this lovely habit may reduce us to the danger of incurring a stroke as a percentage detected between 22 and 25%. This is because, the study points out, and coffee has antioxidant properties, anti-inflammatory and also makes it more sensitive to ‘insulin. In other words, from “vice” to cure, not bad for this little everyday enjoyment, could go much worse!

Never Take Sauna Baths more than 20 mins!

Share
Sauna is a very popular alternative nowadays for modern people to get relaxations. Many people choose to have sauna bats after a busy day at work because it indeed can make people relax. But there is one thing that people should know before deciding to take a sauna bath, they should not do it for more than 20 minutes.

This advise is given because if people sweat continuously, it may cause dehydration, shortness of breath, nausea, dizziness, and even can cause people to faint. Saunas are done in a closed room by using a heater until the temperature in the room reaches over 70 degrees celsius. In this condition the body temperature will rise to about 38-40 degrees Celsius in just a few minutes. For this reason, experts advised people to have sauna bath not more than 15-20 minutes.

“The existing saunas are probably safe for the body, but there are only little evidence which shows that a sauna can provide benefits for health or relaxation,” says Dr. Harvey Simon of the Harvard Mens Health Watch, according to Health.Harvard.edu.

Vitamin A and C for Cancer Therapy

Share
Recent researches have shown that certain vitamins can be successfully employed in the fight against cancer and that they can increase the life expectancy of some terminal cancer patients.

According to recent Swedish studies vitamin C in large doses can be an effective prophylactic agent against cancer. Noted Japanese scientist, Dr. Fukunir Morishige, and his colleagues who have been examining the healing potential of vitamin C for the last 30 years, have recently found that a mixture of vitamin C and copper compound has lethal effects on cancer.

According to several studies, vitamin A exerts an inhibiting effect on carcinogenesis. It is one of the most important aids to the body‘s defence system to fight and prevent cancer. Dr. Leonida Santamaria and his colleagues at the University of Pavia in Italy have uncovered preliminary evidence suggesting that beta-carotene, a precursor of vitamin A may actually inhibit skin cancer by helping the body thwart the cancer-causing process known as oxidation.

Diabetics Can Eat Healthy Sugars!

Share
The diabetic should not be afraid to eat fresh fruits and vegetables which contain sugar and starch. Fresh fruits contain sugar fructose, which does not need insulin for its metabolism and is well tolerated by diabetics.

Fats and oils should be taken sparingly, for they are apt to lower the tolerance for proteins and starches. Emphasis should be on raw foods as they stimulate and increase insulin production.

For protein, home – made cottage cheese, various forms of soured milks and nuts are best. The patient should avoid overeating and take four or five small meals a day rather than three large ones.
The following diet should serve as a guideline:

* Upon arising: A glass of lukewarm water with freshly squeezed lemon juice.
* Breakfast: Any fresh fruit with the exception of bananas, soaked prunes, a small quantity of whole meal bread with butter and fresh milk.
* Lunch: Steamed or lightly cooked green vegetables such as cauliflower, cabbage, tomatoes, spinach, turnip, asparagus and mushrooms, two or three whole wheat chapattis according to appetite and a glass of butter-milk or curd.
* Mid-afternoon: A glass of fresh fruit or vegetable juice.
* Dinner: A large bowl of salad made up of all the raw vegetables in season. The salad may be followed by a hot course, if desired, and fresh home-made cottage cheese.
* Bedtime Snack: A glass of fresh milk.

Flesh foods find no place in this regimen, for they increase the toxaemic condition underlying the diabetic state and reduce the sugar tolerance. On the other hand, a non-stimulating vegetarian diet, especially one made up of raw foods, promotes and increases sugar tolerance.

What Causes a Women to Snore?

Anyone, whether it is a men or a women, can experience snoring when they are sleeping. Snoring is often annoying, especially for people sleeping next to a person that snores, because it can disturb their sleep. Although most of the triggers are the same with men, snoring in women is also influenced by hormonal factors.

Besides disturbing other people, snoring could also be dangerous for those who snore. This is because if their airway is blocked, then breathing can stop for a moment. According to buzzle, there are some factors which can cause a woman to snore, here they are:-

1. Obesity
Obesity makes women more often snore while sleeping because of the fat deposits in the neck. During sleep, much of the airway tissues are rested, fat deposits in the neck presses the airway which triggers snoring sound.
2. Menopause
Women snores more after they pass the age of 40 years old, because at that age, they generally had entered menopause. Decreased production of estrogen hormones triggers snoring during sleep because the hormone is a stimulant to keep the airway which to not get weakened during sleep.
3. Sleeping position
Women more easily snores when sleeping facing up. In that position, the base of the tongue is pulled by gravity and suppresses the throat and block the airway. Try to sleep sideways, and ask others whether you still snore in that position.
4. Alcohol
One effect of alcohol is triggering muscle relaxation, including in the respiratory tract. As with men, women are also more vulnerable to narrowing of the airway during sleep if they often consume alcohol.
5. Infection and inflammation
Sinusitis, colds and allergies can make the airways narrower so women who have the disorder are more likely to snore. Inflammation can also be triggered by cigarette smoke, so quitting smoking may help to relieve snoring in women.
6. Abnormal anatomy
Snoring is experienced more by people who have soft and long tonsil in the esophagus. The bulge will move in when you inhale, then back out when you exhale. The longer the bulge, the more likely to snore.

There is some cheering news for student’s preparation for exams. They can reminiscences new information by just going to sleep. Researchers in Germany originate that the brain is better throughout sleep than during restlessness at resisting attempts to mix up or corrupt a current memory.

Their learn illuminates the intricate procedure by which we store and retrieve acquired piece of information – learning, in short, the journal Nature Neuroscience reports. Fresh memories, stored provisionally in a region of the brain known the hippocampus, do not gel instantly, earlier research showed.

It was also called that reactivation of those memories soon after learning plays a crucial role in their transfer to more indelible storage in the brain’s ‘hard drive,’ the neocortex, according to the everyday Mail.

During restlessness, although, this period of reactivation renders the reminiscences more delicate. Learning a instant poem at this point in time, for example, shall likely build it harder to commit the initial one to profound memory. Forty minutes later, half the subjects who had stayed awake were asked to study a moment, slightly dissimilar outline of cards.

Just before beginning, they were again made to wreak the same odour, designed to trigger their reminiscence of the initial exercise. Both groups were then try on the tale job. The sleep collected works perform significantly better, retain on an average 85 percent of the pattern, compare to 60 percent for persons who remained wakeful.

Health Tips: Things You Need to Know About Fibre

Share

There are 6 classes of fibre. They are cellulose, hemicellulose, pectin, gums, mucilage and lignin. They differ in physical properties and chemical interactions in the gut, though all except lignin are polysaccharides.
The facts known so far about these forms of fibre as a result of various studies are discussed below.

Cellulose: Thisis the most prevalent fibre. It is fibrous and softens the stool. It abounds in fruits, vegetables, bran, whole-meal bread and beans. It is also present in nuts and seeds. It increases the bulk of intestinal waste and eases it quickly through the colon. Investigations indicate that these actions may dilute and flush cancer-causing toxins out of the intestinal tract. They also suggest that cellulose may help level out glucose in the blood and curb weight gain.

Hemicellulose: It is usually present wherever cellulose is and shares some of its traits. Like cellulose, it helps relieve constipation, waters down carcinogens in the bowel and aids in weight reduction. Both cellulose and hemicellulose undergo some bacterial breakdown in the large intestine and this produces gas.

How To Protect Yourself from Nuclear Radiation

Share

It’s been reported that Fukushima Daiichi nuclear reactor (福島第一原発) in Fukushima Prefecture has seriously malfunctioned. There are credible Japanese government agency sources saying that there are measurable levels of radioactive particles showing up in Tokyo. Whether that’s within a safe range or not still don’t know. It may simply be a very small increase in the risk of cancer, as one person asserts, like smoking a cigarette.

Japanese television is reporting that at least three residents among 90 tested showed excess exposure to radiation. If you are in Japan, and the situation worsens, there are some things you can do protect yourself from nuclear radiation. The Centers For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has a a useful posting via http://www.bt.cdc.gov/radiation/emergencyfaq.asp

TIPs to Facing Radiation Emergencies

Share

NOTE: The following tips and related information on radiological emergencies are taken from PNRI’s primer entitled Preparedness for Radiation-Related Emergencies Thru RADPLAN. RADPLAN was approved and signed on November 24, 2000 by former Secretary of National Defense Orlando S. Mercado. In addition, PNRI or Philippine Nuclear Research Institute is part of Department of Science and Technology which is the lead agency in developing and preparing an emergency plan for radiation-related accidents that may affect the Philippines. So, this article focusing more in Philippine context, but can be applied anywhere.

What is a radiation-related emergency or radiological emergency?
A radiation-related emergency or radiological emergency is an event that poses an actual, potential, or perceived danger to public health and safety from radioactive materials or radiation equipment.

What are the different types of radiological emergencies?
The different types of radiological emergencies are the following:-

• Emergency from fixed nuclear or radiation facilities
• Emergencies occurring in the transport or loss radioactive materials
• Emergencies from foreign sources having environmental or health impact on Philippines territories, including the possible entry of contaminated food, scrap metals and other materials
• Emergencies from nuclear-powered ships
• Emergencies from re-entry of satellites with nuclear materials as components

TIPs to Avoid Radiation from Nuclear Power Plants

Share

Introduction.
Nuclear power plants use the heat generated from nuclear fission in a contained environment to convert water to steam, which powers generators to produce electricity. Nuclear power plants operate in most states in the country and produce about 20 percent of the nation’s power. Nearly 3 million Americans live within 10 miles of an operating nuclear power plant.

Although the construction and operation of these facilities are closely monitored and regulated by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), accidents are possible. An accident could result in dangerous levels of radiation that could affect the health and safety of the public living near the nuclear power plant.

Local and state governments, federal agencies, and the electric utilities have emergency response plans in the event of a nuclear power plant incident. The plans define two “emergency planning zones.” One zone covers an area within a 10-mile radius of the plant, where it is possible that people could be harmed by direct radiation exposure. The second zone covers a broader area, usually up to a 50-mile radius from the plant, where radioactive materials could contaminate water supplies, food crops, and livestock.

Tips How to Control Your Weight

Share
Festive season’s around the corner and it’s about time when some of us probably starts worrying how to resist the favourite food being served and made available on the table, to avoid being overweight. Anyone who is overweight will testify that losing weight is not as easy as it seems. The people that are lean, or have gone from fat to skinny will say it’s just a matter of motivation and elbow grease; though it is not as simple as that. Here are some quick simple tips to get ahead!

Substitute Water.
Our bodies are about 65-70% water. It follows that water would be not only essential, but the best possibly choice of liquids to ingest. In fact, our bodies will sometimes simulate a hunger response, when in reality the body is craving hydration. When hungry, drink a glass or two of water to check if it suppresses your hunger.

Chew Your Food.
Chewing our food very slowly and deliberately has several benefits that are often overlooked. It gives us the ability to relax, and enjoy our meal. Slow chewing is the first, and highly important, step in a complex system of digestion. Besides, if we eat slowly, we might feel full before finishing the whole meal, and can leave the rest for the next meal.

Tips: Caring For Your Contact Lens

Share

Follow these guidelines for good contact lens care to extend the life of your contact lenses, and protect the safety and health of your eyes.

1. Always wash your hands with warm water and soap before handling your contact lenses or before touching your eyes. Any residue from lotions, soaps, or chemicals may stick to the contact lens, causing pain, irritation, or blurred vision when they are in your eyes. Dry your hands with a clean towel.

2. Wear your contact lenses as prescribed. Your eye doctor will recommend a wearing schedule specific to the type of contact lens you have selected. Only wear your contact lenses for the time recommended.

3. Clean and store your contact lenses as prescribed (in a clean case in fresh solution). Different types of contact lenses require special care and certain types of products. Always use the eye care products recommended by your eye doctor. Some eye products or eye drops are not safe for contact lens wearers.

Tips to Avoid Daytime Sleepiness

Share

Almost everyone has days when they feel sleepy. But for some people, excessive sleepiness actually gets in the way of daily work, childcare, and even leisure activities. This is known as hypersomnia, recurrent sleepiness that makes people want to nap repeatedly, even at work. Poor sleep habits are often the cause of daytime sleepiness. Problem sleepiness can also be caused by certain illnesses and medications. And mental conditions such as depression, posttraumatic stress disorder, and anxiety are very commonly linked to sleep problems. Even missing just a few nights’ sleep, or not getting enough uninterrupted sleep, can slow you down and sour your mood.

To improve nighttime sleep and avoid daytime sleepiness, here’s some tips to help you avoid going through more groggy and crabby days:-

1. Get adequate nighttime sleep.
Most adults need seven to nine hours a night, and teenagers usually need a full nine hours. Many of us succumb to shaving an hour or two off our sleep time in the morning or at night to do other things. Block out eight or nine hours for sleep every night.

2. Reduce distractions.
You shouldn’t read, watch TV, play video games, or use laptop computers in bed. Don’t do your bills or have heated discussions in bed either. They may leave you sleepless.
