Children could Suffer Heart Disease since 9 years old

Heart disease is not a disease that could only be suffered by adults only. This was stated by a team of doctors from Sweden.  They released a result of their study which stated that children could suffer from heart disease since 9 years old.

Children who are at risk of suffering heart disease is not just those who are obese, but also children who have lean body. Although not overweight, children everyday only watches TV at home and rarely do physical activity can suffer heart disease since the age of 9 years old.

This risk emerges because of the lack of physical activity done by these children. As a result, maximum oxygen consumption by the body is not met. The subsequent effect if they lack oxygen consumption is that it can affect various organ functions.

Children who are often involved in physical activities consume an average oxygen as much as 41.7 mL/min/ kg body weight. While children who rarely move are only able to consume 35.7 41.7 mL /min/ kg body weight. These differences affect the overall function of organs including the heart rhythm.

The latest research conducted in Skane University Hospital, Sweden. The study, led by Dr. Tina Tahna and was published in the Acta Paediatrica journal, involved 123 boys and 100 girls aged between 9 to 10 years.

Besides measuring their body mass index, their physical activity were also observed by installing various equipment including Electro Cardiograph (ECG) to record heart rhythms. Researchers also attached an accelerometer to measure physical activity of the participants.

Results for 4 consecutive days found the influence of a lack of exercise on heart disease risk remains high even though the children are not overweight.

Besides from oxygen consumption, blood test results also showed that lack of exercise can cause unhealthy blood composition.

“This study shows the clinical relationship between lack of physical activity with risk factors for heart disease increased to 11 percent,” said Dr Tahna, according to ScienceDaily.

The study also reveals that the addition of activity for 20 minutes each day has a significant influence in reducing the risk of heart disease. But most health experts recommend, the kids have to perform physical activity at least 60 minutes a day.
